Where has the time gone…celebrating Big Sister!

I have no idea how this happened, but I am officially the mother of a ten-year old.  This has not really sunk in, but it is my reality.  Enough about me though…this is her day!

My wonderful sister-in-law is giving Virginia a scrapbook for her birthday of her first ten years.  This is outside of my capabilities, so I am very thankful she has offered such!  A request she had for us was to write a letter to Virginia, to be included in the book.  We did so last night.  I thought I would share it here for those of you that know her/us.  She is truly a light in our lives.

Dearest Virginia Dare,

Our first born…you have gone by many names: bird, sweet-pea, string bean, sissie…but one thing is for sure, you will always be our sweet baby girl.  You have brought so much love, light and laughter into our lives.

From the day you were born, we have adored you and marveled at you intelligence and determination.  You made being a first time mom easy!  We giggle now thinking about your silly ways as a toddler.  You have always been so fun to be around!

As the years have flown by, we have enjoyed watching you begin school, always making friends so easily and being the apple of you teacher’s eye. You have often been described as being very “social”, while this it may have presented a problem or two in the classroom, it made us happy to see you interact and enjoy your friends…making each day the best it can be.

From the moment Kimberly Rose entered our lives you have been a wonderful big sister.  It hasn’t always been easy, and your patience and understanding of her extra needs has been a true blessing in all of our lives.  You have such a special way with her, different from anyone else.  It makes us so happy to see the two of you together having fun and sharing a love that only sisters know.

Your sense of adventure is something we also enjoy.  We love exposing you to new experiences and look forward to many more years of that!  Your willingness to try new things, like gymnastics, dance, horseback riding, and learning to ride a motorcycle will serve you well throughout your life.

Your creatively also amazes us.  Whether it is a sweet drawing, imaginative story, or an elaborate game that you create with endless rules that constantly change…your mind is a consistent source of wonder for us!  Hopefully you will continue to explore that and try many wonderful ideas in the future.

You should know and always remember, so many people in your life love you very much.  You are so fortunate to have many relatives and family friends that feel a special love for you, care about you, and want you to be as happy and healthy as possible!  Especially us!!

As you have grown, it has been our delight to watch you become the lovely young lady that you are today.  It has truly been and will continue to be our absolute pleasure to be your momma and dada.  If your first ten years are any indication, you will continue on with your life, a happy and healthy girl…your heart full of love for all that surrounds you.

All of our love-

Momma and Dada
